Google at it again with Wave

Google is planning to release Google Wave, its ambitious new IM/Email/Wiki hybrid in September. Invites for 100,000 users will be made available on September 30 via wave.google.com. Gmail final release

Google has announced that its Apps Suite, which includes the likes of Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs and Google Talk, is finally set to shed its beta label.

Gmail in particular has carried its beta tag for more than five years, and it has been a bit of a head scratcher as to why seemingly finished programs have carried on as “betas” for so long.

While Google explains that the four applications have been running at or above the standards of other non-beta software for a while, they have never quite managed to drop their beta tag – until today.
